What makes you the Next Runway Star?
What makes me the Next Runway Star is that I know my style & worth as a model & fashion artist. I first showed an interest in fashion since I was a kid. I learned how to sew at 7 years old & grew in my sewing skills since then. I also began modeling at 21 years old. I love to make an entrance with my style & use my creativity, imagination, & skills to make my looks come to life & make a difference. I also care about different causes that are very important to me. Due to my academic background in International Affairs (Bachelor of Arts) & also Social Justice & Human Rights (Master of Arts), I've worked to continue educating myself on what has been going on around the world & seeing how I can continue advocating for the right things & for others who need to have their voices heard, both inside & outside of the fashion industry especially.
What would this once in a lifetime experience mean to you and why?
This once in a lifetime experience would mean the world to me, because I get the opportunity to walk in New York Fashion Week & help survivors in the process at the same time through this opportunity. Rise is an incredible organization that does amazing & impactful work that has saved a lot of lives of survivors. So, it is very exciting that they get to be involved in this opportunity. I've always wanted to walk in New York Fashion Week since I first began my modeling career a few years ago. I've been working towards that dream since then & will continue to do so. To be able to walk in a New York Fashion Week show & help others at the same time is important to me, because I want to use my talents & skills to help others in need in the community when I can, especially in the fashion industry.
What are you most proud of about yourself or what have you overcome and why?
I'm most proud of not giving up on myself & also continuously working towards my dreams, no matter the circumstances I experienced in my life over the years. I overcame a lot of challenges & hardship growing up, which has made me grow more resilience as I've gotten older. To see how much I was able to accomplish throughout that time has helped me to keep going & pushing, along with always continuing to believe in myself moving forward.
What would you do with the $20,000 cash prize?
With the $20,000 cash prize, I would use it to grow my brand as a fashion designer & creative. I love making clothes, I always to want to create, & I care about sustainable fashion. As a result, I want to make sure to continue growing my brand the right way that helps the planet & also helps places in need around the world as a social business in the process.
