What makes you the Next Runway Star?
I’m very cool and down to earth. I have a way of being relatable on many different levels. I am an experience people often return to.
What would this once in a lifetime experience mean to you and why?
It would mean the world to me. I used to sit and watch the TV shows back in the day and say “I wish”. Then would tell myself, “when this [body part] looks better” I’ll tryout and then time passed and I had child and I gave up that dream. I gave up until I saw this opportunity and said “why not” because just like the question states - some opportunities come once in a lifetime and if this is it I’m here for it all and I want to show my daughter you can do anything you put your mind to. Plus you will never be rewarded for your lack of action - so no matter the outcome, it’s now or never!!!
What are you most proud of about yourself or what have you overcome and why?
Homelessness. I survived homelessness with a almost two year-old and almost one year-old. They had no clue what was going on and I had no clue I could make it. Not only did I make from sleeping in cars and on couches, I made it to the executive level of the agency that I am currently employed at. I also obtained my bachelors degree management and both my children have now graduated high school. When I ask them now, what drives them towards their purpose - they tell me it is me and knowing [now] what we went through. As well as knowing that adversity isn’t a stopping point it is sometimes what pushes us towards everything we need to be.
What would you do with the $20,000 cash prize?
Throughout my story, I’ve always dreamed of having a family home for my children to come home to no matter what age they are, and although this is only the short version of everything - $20,000 would allow that dream to begin to become reality.
