What makes you the Next Runway Star?
I'm 6’3 and have always dreamed of being a model but I never really had the time nor opportunity to. Being a mom and a wife to a big family, life can get pretty busy but I wouldn't regret a thing. Now with having more time for myself, its time for me to make my dreams come true.
What would this once in a lifetime experience mean to you and why?
Over the past 3 years I have fought and beaten ovarian cancer, resulting in having to get a full hysterectomy. Unfortunately after my surgery, I had a intestine rupture in which I was given only 2 hours to live if I didn't get emergency surgery. To have two complicated operations back to back and to come out stronger is truly a blessing. I'm very grateful to be able to have a second chance at life. Walking the runway at New York Fashion week would mean the world to me because there could've been a chance I wouldn't be here another day.
What are you most proud of about yourself or what have you overcome and why?
The most proud thing about myself that I have over came is surpringly my height. You would think being so tall (6'3) would have great perks but honestly made me feel so isolated and alienated from my peers growing up. Being teased and defeminized for something i couldn't control was not only embarrassing but made me not want to be different. Through out my life, I have grown to love my height. I have grown so much confidence within in my beauty and uniqueness.
What would you do with the $20,000 cash prize?
With $20,000 I would honestly take a break from working. I have worked 2 to 3 jobs for the past 24 years to provide for my family even through my health complications. To have the privilege to finally kick my feet up and enjoy a true day off would be a blessing. As my last 2 youngest are now in or about to attend college, I would definitely help pay tuition to began there journey as young adults. I also will help the homeless. With winter approaching I would buy items to help keep them warm and put a homeless family in need in a hotel for a couple months to escape the cold.
