What makes you the Next Runway Star?
I once walked the Tyra Show runway as a slender plus-size woman, and now I am more confident, older, and beautiful inside and out. I would like to show the world you can be amazing in your 50s. Why I Stepped Onto This Runway I entered this contest hoping for 1st runner-up — not because I think I’ll be the next top model in New York. I’m way too old for that chapter, and honestly, I have other loves that light me up: school, learning, growing. I love government. I love connecting people to resources, to each other, to hope. But I stepped onto this runway anyway. Because there are thousands of Cathys and Cathryns out there — shy, timid, wearing glasses, thinking they’re invisible. I was that girl once.
What would this once in a lifetime experience mean to you and why?
I would like to show the world that you can be confident curvy and 51.
What are you most proud of about yourself or what have you overcome and why?
I have overcome mental health issues, being unhoused, criminalization, writing a book, and completing my master's degree to being accepted into the PhD program. I have risen from the ashes, going through the cocoon stages to becoming a butterfly.
What would you do with the $20,000 cash prize?
I would like to start a non profit organization to help young women and women to become independent and confident.
