What makes you the Next Runway Star?
I’m an all out anomaly! I’m an Alaska-based scientist with a passion for fashion and makeup. I’ve walked in various STEM fashion shows and Alaska Fashion Week.
What would this once in a lifetime experience mean to you and why?
To walk the runway and support Amanda’s initiative for survivors would be a lifetime experience. We have witnessed centuries of violence towards women and girls, and it’s simply instinctual for me to advocate for us. Having a platform for me to represent myself, my family, my friends, and victims worldwide is an honor.
What are you most proud of about yourself or what have you overcome and why?
My face. I have split racial identities that have always prevented me from fitting in. I was too white in Asian communities and too Asian in my predominantly white hometown. I had eyelids that never translated makeup the same as others, a nose that didn’t support glasses, and a rounded face that lacked chiseled dimensions. I desperately wanted to change it all. Today, I am proud of my mixed face! I love the way my makeup enhances the features gifted to me from my mother and grandmother.
What would you do with the $20,000 cash prize?
I would open a cosmetic storefront/space for local women and girls in rural Alaska. We would host cosmetic labs for them to develop their own products and learn makeup techniques to build confidence.
